Why a grid rather than location names

Named locations change whenever the map does, and a list that is out of date is worse than no list. A grid works on any map, in any season, and it also sends you to the unnamed corners you would normally fly straight past.

How to use it with friends

Roll once for the squad before the bus starts and ping the square on the map. Agree on one rule first: if the square is out of glide range or in water, land at the nearest dry land to it instead of rolling again.

It is a good warm-up too. Random landings force you to read unfamiliar terrain and look for loot fast, which carries over to normal matches. Our landing guide covers what to look for on the way down.

Frequently asked questions

›Does the picker know the current map?

No, on purpose. It picks a grid square and a landing style, so it never goes out of date when the map changes.

›Is every result fair?

Each of the 100 squares is equally likely. Some will be over water or out of reach from the bus route, so agree beforehand on landing at the nearest reachable ground.

›Does this work for squads?

Yes. Roll once, share the square in voice chat or with a map ping, and land together.
