Where to land in Fortnite: how to choose a drop spot
Updated
A way to choose your landing that keeps working whenever the map changes.
Read the bus route first
Places directly under the bus route attract the most players, and places far from it attract the fewest. Before you jump, decide how much early fighting you want, then choose your distance from the route to match.
Match the spot to your goal
Pick the goal before you pick the place:
- To practise fighting: land on the route, near the busiest named location.
- To finish quests: go where the quest is, and accept the extra traffic other questers bring.
- To reach the late game: land off the route, near a smaller group of buildings.
Count gliders on the way down
Your plan can change in the air. Look around as you fall and count the players heading for your building. If two people land on the same roof as you and you have no weapon, you are relying on luck, so steer to a nearby building instead of committing.
Always have a way out
Good loot in a bad position still loses games. Before you land, think about how you will reach the next safe zone from there. A remote spot with no vehicles or mobility items nearby can leave you caught in the storm long after you finished looting.
Break your habits
Landing in the same place each match teaches you one fight. Now and then use the random drop picker to learn parts of the map you normally skip.
