How to enable 2FA for your Fortnite account

Updated

Two-factor authentication protects your Epic account in a few minutes, and A2F is the same thing.

Why turn it on

With 2FA, a stolen password is not enough to get into your account, because a login also needs a security code. A2F is the name used in some languages, including Spanish and French. Epic's account security page also says enabling it immediately grants the Boogie Down Emote.

How to set it up

Do this on Epic's own site. Never do it through a link someone sent you:

  • Log in at epicgames.com and open your account settings.
  • Go to Password and security.
  • Under Two-Factor Authentication, choose a method and select Set up.
  • Enter the code you are given. Epic confirms by email that it is active.

Which method to choose

An authenticator app is usually the best choice, since it does not depend on your phone network. Epic supports its own Epic Authenticator, as well as apps such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Authy. Email and SMS codes also work, but SMS is not available in every region.

If Fortnite says it is not active

Epic's help page says you may have enabled it on a different account from the one you play on, so check which account you are logged in to. Console-only accounts may also need an email address added first. If you were caught by a scam, read our guide to V-Bucks scams.
