How to use island codes in Fortnite

Updated

How to enter an island code, and what to do when one doesn't work.

What an island code is

Every published player-made island has a code, written as three groups of four digits such as 1234-5678-9012 (that one is only an example). The code takes you straight to that island without browsing for it.

How to enter a code

The menu layout changes from time to time, but the steps stay close to this:

  • Open Fortnite and go to the Discover screen, where you choose game modes.
  • Select the search option and type or paste the code.
  • Select the island in the results and confirm it as your mode.
  • Press Play. If you are in a party, your party joins you.

When a code does not work

First check the digits, since a single wrong number leads nowhere. If the code is correct, the creator may have unpublished the island or Epic may have removed it. Some islands also have age ratings or parental controls that block them on your account.

Be careful with XP map claims

A code on a video thumbnail promising huge XP is often out of date or exaggerated, and Epic can change how XP works on islands. Treat those numbers as claims. Test the island for one short session while watching your XP, and if you want an honest estimate of your pace, use the XP calculator.
