How Fortnite Rivals work
This comes from a guide written at the Chapter 7 Season 2 launch. Check the game to see whether it applies in the current season:
- You choose a player in your match on the Rivalry Screen.
- If someone eliminates you, they can become your rival, and eliminating them pays double Rival Credits.
- A rival eliminated by someone else drops a Rivalry Contract. Reach it first to claim the credit.
- Credits carry between matches, and you spend them at Rivalry Gear machines.
Rivalry Ranks
The guide lists 20 Rivalry Ranks, with higher ranks unlocking better items at Rivalry Gear machines.
Why does my count differ on the Rivalries Leaderboard?
Epic has a help article about this: the number of rivalries won may differ between the Rivalries Leaderboard and the Rivalry Ranks quest. It says the issue is being looked into, so a small gap on your side may not be your mistake.
Not the same as Ranked
Ranked is a separate mode, with tiers from Bronze up to Unreal and its own leaderboard for Unreal players. For overall stats, see our guide to tracker sites.
Frequently asked questions
›Are Rivalry Ranks the same as Ranked tiers?

›Does this article verify that the older Rivalry system is active today?
No. Its feature description comes from earlier-season coverage. The cited help and current in-game screens should be checked before treating historical mechanics as current.
